TO EVERYTHING THAT COMES TO FRUITION
Six years ago I moved to Chicago on a whim during the pandemic, leaving everything and everyone behind. I loved where I grew up and I will always love being from the Rio Grande Valley, but I needed change, so I left. I was twenty five.
The first half of my twenties felt like a long unraveling. It felt as if the ground beneath me kept shifting and everything I once called home was slowly dissolving. In that dissolving I began to find something I thought I had lost. Creating.
It returned to me like a memory just out of reach. As a child I not only painted but created constantly without hesitation. It was the most natural way I knew how to exist in the world. But life moved forward and I drifted away from it without realizing how far I had gone.
The canvas became a place of return where I could meet myself again.
Creating makes me feel expansive like I am breathing into my own becoming.
I want everything that comes to fruition to feel like an extension of who I am becoming.
